A close-up view of a laptop displaying a search engine results page or SERP as we like to call it. And it's on our privacy policy page.

My Privacy Policy, but…

I know this is a privacy notice and/or privacy policy. But hey, I’m just a regular guy. I don’t really track who’s visiting, minus Google Analytics. My website address is: https://cecilhelton.com. And I may refer to myself as “I” or “we” or even “Cecil” or something else here – again, just a regular guy who has his own website, nothing more.

What personal data do I collect and why I may collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Of course, that is only if I’m actually allowing any comments – which might be unlikely.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. And again, comments might be quite unlikely.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. But I don’t exactly let you upload them unless I have comments, so…

Contact forms

I don’t currently have any forms on the site you can access, minus the sole one on my contact page that’s there just in case you don’t like email. I may deploy other RFI and webforms at my leisure. So it should go without saying that anything you input on any available form, be it hosted locally or as part of an iframe from another website, will be recorded, since you know, you submitted it. I also may be quite slow to update this policy as well, as again, I’m just a regular guy and this is my website, nothing more.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year. There’s also Google Analytics, and hey, you did choose to visit here and interact with the website. I may deploy other cookies at some point. Heck, I might even offer a consent tool at some point, but again, just a regular guy who isn’t looking to monetize you or anything you do here.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. I have no control over what any other website may track, so talk to them about it.

I also may link to many external websites. While I do control my links, I have nothing to do with anything that comes from following one of them. NADA. Ok, that’s probably not an appropriate legal term, but again, this is a privacy policy for a regular guy’s website, so…

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Again, I do employ Google analytics, so…

Who we share your data with

Google and WordPress. As for third party content, well again, on you.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. And that’s also with the understanding that I have made commenting available and publish yours, which sounds unlikely, although not entirely impossible.

What rights you have over your data

Well, you did choose to visit. And give me whatever data you’ve given as well, So, as you might expect, in relation to this website, that would be absolutely none. I ain’t a company. I really don’t want your data. And I am not doing anything with YOUR data. Everything on this site is MY data. And if you choose to email me from the link(s) on this site, you indeed made that choice. What I do with your email is entirely up to me.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. And again, if you email me, I may do whatever I wish with the content, information and/or data you send my way.
